Nusbaum survives Modified Mayhem to capture victory at Limaland

When the gates opened at Limaland Motorsports Park on Friday night, the crowd was treated to a celebration of the 90th Anniversary of the facility, along with the rescheduled Modified Mayhem event. The University of Northwestern Ohio presented the big night of racing featuring the Bath Masters DIRTcar UMP Modifieds won by Warsaw Indiana’s Dillon Nusbaum, The Great Lakes Traditional Sprints won by Guilford Indiana’s Shawn Westerfield, and the Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks won by Churubusco Indiana’s Todd Sherman.

Kicking off the racing action were the Bath Masters DIRTcar UMP Modifieds in their 20 lap feature, it took three tries to get the race started after two complete restarts for crashes in turn 2 including one involving eventual winner Dillon Nusbaum. Nusbaum got sideways exiting the corner but was able to keep his car rolling, enabling him to retain his starting position near the front of the field. When the field finally came to green, it was No. 65 Todd Sherman and No. 18 Brendan Rassel leading the field. Sherman would grab the early race lead with Rassel in tow. No 17N Dillon Nusbaum would make his way to second on lap 3, and then to the lead on lap 5 and never look back. No. 3W Dylan Woodling would make his way around Sherman to grab second on lap 9 and try to close on Nusbaum. In the end it was Nusbaum picking up the win over Woodling, Sherman was third, No. 17 Nick Snell finished fourth in his first Limaland start, and No. 5X Jerry Bowersock completed the top five.

Next up were the Great Lakes Traditional Sprints for their 25 lap A Main. No. 21B Ryan Barr and No. 4J Shawn Wester field would bring the field to green and the two would battle for the lead until lap 2 when Westerfield cleared Barr. Wapakoneta Ohio’s Mike Miller piloted the Ray Marshal owned No. 33M to the second position on lap 4 and battled with Barr, and eventual runner-up No. 23S Max Adams right up until the checkered flag. In the end, Westerfield proved to be the class of the field, winning by nearly a full straightaway over Adams, who beat Miller by a nose to finish second, Miller third, No. 2DI Dustin Ingle finished fourth, and No. 1H Korbyn Hayslett rounded out the top five.

The Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks would complete the night’s racing action with their 15 lap A Main. No. 82 Chris Douglas would start on the pole for the feature event on a night that saw him participate in a gender reveal celebration for his son Kenny Douglas, and fiancé Brooklyn Unger. Douglas released pink smoke from the cockpit of the No. 82, indicating that his first grandchild will be a girl, invoking a big congratulations from the crowd. No 8 Zach Rush would join Douglas on the front row, with Douglas taking the lap 1 lead. No. 60 Todd Sherman showed his continued dominance of the Thunderstock division, taking the lead on lap two and never looking back. Caution flags on lap 3 and 12 would slow the field briefly, but Sherman would pull away on both restarts, winning over UNOH Racer Eric Kinney II in the UNOH owned No. 00. Rush would finish third, No. 22T Tony Anderson fourth, and No. 26 Justin Long would complete the top five.
